Recap of Kristallnacht Event 11-14-24

“To be remembered is to live forever.” This is why Yvette Smith shares her grandfather’s story of survival.

On November 14, several 2Gs and 3Gs gathered at the Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library to commemorate Kristallnacht. It was a gift to see so many new faces join our community. We hope to see you again at our upcoming events.

The program this year was about remembrance and sharing our stories. We heard about Yvette Smith’s grandfather’s journey of survival, which took him from Czechoslovakia to Hungary and ultimately, the U.S. We then heard about Mike Salomon’s grandparents. One grandfather survived Auschwitz partly because he listened to his mother’s advice to make himself useful. He became an electrician, and this indeed helped save his life.

To learn more about these extraordinary stories of survival, watch the program recording here.
